This short hike is the perfect introduction into birding in Panama for those who do not have all day to spend in one of the extensive bird watching trails at Pipeline Rd or Soberania National Park.
Metropolitan Natural Park is 1 of the 3 protected parks located in the Biological Corridor including Metropolitan National Park, Soberania National Park and Camino del Cruces. The importance of this Biological Corridor is to protect the watershed for Panama City and Colon and ensures the water levels are maintained for the locks to function correctly throughout the Panama Canal. Most importantly for you, it is a safe haven for one of the largest varieties of both endemic and migrational birds from all of the Americas.
There are over 250 species that can be found here, but some of the more frequent spottings inside Metropolitan Natural Park Include:
- Blue-crowned Motmots
- Various Wrens
- Lance Tailed Manakins
- Various Greenlets
- Trogons
- Several varieties of Flycatchers
- Woodpeckers
- Toucans
- Collared Aracari
- Tanagers
